OPTHALMOLOGYJune - August 2016: My project was designed to find the prevalence of refractive errors in children 5-15 years in Port Harcourt, Nigeria and to know how many of them/ their parents were aware of it. I dealt with organizing quantitative data and, for effective time management, organizing the children by how they would be examined.

FORENSIC ENTYMOLOGYJanuary 2018- November 2019: My research was on using a specific chemical approach to determine the ages of blow fly larvae (Phormia Regina), commonly found in crime scenes to help determine the minimum post mortem interval of individuals. I reared blow fly larvae, collected them, inspected them under a microscope, and did a comparative analysis on them. I have become proficient at using lab equipment like scales, microscopes, measures and incubators. The lab also exposed me to DNA analysis work. I work pretty independently, but I am under the supervision of Florida International University’s Dr. Jeffrey Wells.

BIO-EDUCATIONAugust 2018 - Present: My research topic is on obtaining the graduate students' perspective of science communication and comparing that with what experts consider to be effective science communication. The greater aim of the project is the incorporation of better science communication training into the graduate student curriculum. My research entails analyzing qualitative data from respondents. I look at the data with 3 other people on the team and we analyze them separately and try to reach agreements on what the inferences on the data. The organization of the data is done using NVivo software, so I also have experience in coding. The research is with Florida International University’s Dr. Melissa McCartney.
The research and data from the questionnaire has been prepared as a manuscript to be submitted to a scientific journal. I have already prepared three poster presentations (photos on the left). I am also participating in writing a grant proposal to secure funding to continue this research. |
